I was wandering around, kind of in a daze. I was in a weightlifting room looking around for a bench and some weights. I couldn't find any that looked right. They looked kind of funky and probably dangerous to use, I thought. There were lots of people there. So I decided to go into the room next door. There was lots of food, and people were eating pizza. But the cheese and the meat were all cut up in different little pieces. Diane Solomon came by and offered me some. I didn't quite know what to do. I wandered back into the weight room and put down my flashlight. I hoped no-one would steal it. But again, the weights didn't fit. There was one at the end of a long pole, and it didn't fit the weight bench.
Finally I saw my old partner Mitchell. He was a fairly skinny guy with a clever look, and he dressed in red. Welcome home, he said. Why are things so haphazard and strange?, I asked him. You just arrived, I guess; he said. I forgot, when were you born, Mitchell? June 14, 1944, he said. I died on Jan.18, 2024. So, are we in heaven then, Mitch? I haven't seen you for a while. Yes, said Mitch; we just call it the other side. Why did it take you so long to get here?, Mitchell asked me. I put it off. I had things I wanted to do back on Earth, I said. Well, said Mitchell, there's plenty of things to do here too. I guess so, I said; everything is so disorganized. That's just the way things are around here, said Mitchell. It doesn't matter. Things seem to work anyway. You get what you need. You'll get used to it.
There was much to learn and explore about my new place. I guess that's at least something to do. They tell you so little back on Earth what it's like here. Well, I guess I'll report back about this more next time. I seem to still have some kind of connection to you guys on Earth, or I wouldn't be writing this. I hope so anyway. (or maybe..... ?)
